5 Stars Another Home Run for Dana
I have to say I am biased. I have been follow Dana for a long time, via internet at first, then through her book “How I Gave up my Low Fat Diet and Lost 40 lbs.” Now I collect her cook books. Sometimes a recipe is so simple it’s more of a “why didn’t I think of that” and other times it’s an elaborate luxury. Either way, the majority of the recipes in her books fit right with my own tastes. Any serious low carb lifer needs her books as the variety and creativity will enrich their dining experiences.
5 Stars BBQs and Picnics are back for low-carbers!
I love this book. For those of you who enjoy traditional barbecue and picnic-style foods, this book is a must have.
So many cookbooks are filled with fancy recipes that you would only make on special occasions. What do you do when you’re craving onion rings or your Mom’s cole slaw but know you can’t have those on your low-carb diet? Dana Carpender’s Low Carb Barbecue Book is filled with low-carb versions of all the foods you really want and crave.
The first of the book gives tips on grilling techniques and tools and lists some speciality ingredients that are used.
There is a large section on sauces and rubs, followed by pork, poultry, beef, seafood, and kebabs. There are also sections on vegetables, slaws, sides, beverages and desserts.
Dana Carpender uses Atkins bake mixes in the recipes for hush puppies and onion rings, just a warning for those who cannot find those in your area. She also uses Splenda in tons of the recipes if you don’t like the use of Splenda.
I think the recipes are delicious and the ones for the low-carb baked beans, unpotato salad, and the peanut butter and jelly pie are worth the purchase of the book alone.
5 Stars Five Star Recipe Book
I am usually a failure in the kitchen. In the past, even the most basic recipes would prove a challenge for me until I discovered Dana Carpender’s books. I strongly recommend them to anyone cooking challenged or following a low-carb lifestyle. They are not just quick & easy with limited preparation but delicious as well. You won’t be disappointed.

4 Stars Good and different
This is slightly sweet seaweed pickle. Lightly crunchy, with a HINT of the licorice complmenting the sweetness (I wouldn’t have been able to ID it as such if I didn’t know it was in there). All flavors are mild and mellow. Quite nice.
I’m not sure about the individually wrapped morsel-sized pieces. I think packed bulk in a small jar makes more sense.
5 Stars I love seaweed and I love plum
Ume means plum I found out at a sushi restaurant. I love sour plum and cucmber rolls. I keep looking for different japanese products with a plum flavor. This is a wet individually wrapped seaweed layer with a plum flavor. If you are like me and you love seaweed and plum this is for you. People told me this product existed, but it is very hard to find.

Calculated Industries KitchenCalc 8300 Recipe Calculator with Digital Timer

So you’re not a math whiz who can do endless complicated and possibly fractional calculations in your head. So what? That doesn’t mean you aren’t a good cook. With this convenient calculator at hand you’ll be able to figure out recipe scaling and portion sizing quickly and easily without guesswork and without brain strain. In addition to these useful functions this little dynamo also works as a timer and a measurement converter. See, good things do indeed come in small packages!

1 Star defective~!
when i recieved the calc. it didnt work. the batteries werent dead either. biggest waste of $25~! i tried everything to make it work but it didnt even register zero or turn on.
4 Stars Kitchen Calc is good, but computer can do more.
THE KITCHEN CALC 8300 CALCULATOR WITH DIGITAL TIMER IS A VERY HANDY TOOL FOR ANY KITCHEN. EVERYONE NEEDS A BASIC CALCULATOR AT SOME TIME - THIS FITS THE BILL. TO HAVE A CONVERSION TOOL HANDY IS …WELL HANDY.
TO USE IT TO CONVERT A RECIPE IS TIME CONSUMING, BUT CAN BE DONE. IF YOU HAVE A RECIPE PROGRAM ON YOUR COMPUTER, MOST WILL DO THE SAME THING MUCH FASTER AND EASIER.
OVERALL, I AM GLAD I PURCHASED 5 OF THEM. THEY MADE GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR THE COOKS IN MY FAMILY

2 Stars You would THINK this was great
But…the instructions are difficult to follow and for a timer it’s counter intuitive. I also had mine for 24 hours and the little plastic tabs that hold the cover on broke off leaving me with what looks like a broken calculator. No one from the company returned my emails, so I guess it goes in the drawer with the junk.
5 Stars A necessity for any kitchen
I am a pastry chef in SF. I came across this calculator while in culinary school a few years back. One of the best darn tools I use. Every kitchen should have a calculator, but why not one that will also help with conversions? Get this as a gift for anyone you know who loves to cook.
5 Stars Best tool for calculating kitchen formulas and recipes!
I publish Epicurus.com, one of the leading food and travel sites with more than 10,000 recipes. In an average week, I go through more than 200 hundred recipes developing them for our site or our clients. As a restaurant consultant, I scale recipes for clients every day. This calculator has made my life simpler and given me less angst over miscalculated formulae. The device is as simple to use as a normal calculator, but so much better.
No home cook… indeed no professional chef, should be without one of these devices. I’ve come to depend on it for accuracy, speed and efficiency.
They’re far more accurate than the recipe software I’ve used, easier to work with and far more efficient as I can take this right to the kitchen workstation with me. It fits in my pocket and works like a dream.
An absolute must if you get recipes from cookbooks. Simply wonderful.
